Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioner 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to visit your home and complete your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the area around your system to get rid of branches and leaves that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and prune back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Peitz Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular A/C system service. Also, a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. This may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Peitz Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioning system is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and learn about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
